The World’s First Immersive
Interpretation of the Ancient Art of
Chinese Shadow Play.
REXPERIENCE presents “Piying Dream,” an original immersive experience by Danny Rose Studio. Drawing inspiration from the art of Chinese shadow play, now recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, it reimagines a radically new Chinese legend. The production weaves together the narrative with over 3,000 digitised shadow puppet artifacts.
Utilising light as a medium, Temple of Light and Danny Rose employ cutting-edge projection technology as their artistic expression. An homage is paid to this age-old art form by seamlessly integrating it into the digital immersive arena. Similarly, the traditional Malaysian shadow puppet theatre, known as wayang kulit, has significantly shaped Malaysia’s cultural identity.
The immersive exhibition of “Piying Dream” is a co-production between Temple of Light and Danny Rose. In this experience, carefully designed stages seamlessly traverse the venue’s floors and walls, each representing a distinct universe. Original music enhances dynamic choreography, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in a sensory journey.
INTO THE BLUE (INTERLUDE)
In “Into the Blue”, light becomes a hypnotic architecture. Its increasingly diffuse beams are superimposed, creating moving geometries that invite us to change the way we look at our surroundings. The original music that accompanies “Into the Blue” amplifies the transient dimension of the experience. It plunges the viewer into a contemplative state.
THE MATTER OF PAINTING
“The Matter of Painting” turns the venue into a huge canvas where the different forms of painting are explored. It is inspired by the Action Painting movement born in 1950’s in NYC, the true renaissance of contemporary art where artists created their artworks in live performances. “The Matter of Painting” is conceived as a constantly morphing art installation-performance, plunging and submerging the viewer in matter and colour. “The Matter of Painting” is an original creation by Danny Rose Studio. Music concept by Sergio Carrubba, original composition by Emanuele de Raymondi.
